The only way they mark FR-S up is by putting "add-Ons" if you order your FRs Stock, you will pay the Stock asking price. The dealer wher eI work charges 500 bucks to tint the windows, and 2500 bucks for some ***** fitting TSWs with some No Name low Pro tires. Its the customers fault if they buy it for 3000 over the asking price with those add ons. But technically its Scion policy to not mark up any cars STOCK.

Just decided to see if our local Scion dealer has the FR-S in stock yet. Yep, they do. Each car shows an MSRP as well as a "selling price." The selling price is $5699 higher than MSRP. Thanks, guys.

| Quote, originally posted by and another one.... » | Jim Hudson Scion had one in the showroom a couple of weeks ago. MSRP with delivery fee was just under $25k. Total sticker was just under $30k - for paint protectant, fabric protectant, a fancy stereo, nitrogen filled tires, pinstripe, and "Market Adjustment". Told me they wouldn't pull it out for a test drive until the deal was done and the paperwork was complete. I didn't feel like putting in the time and effort for a test drive since there was no way I would consider paying 20% over MSRP. I don't know if they sold it yet.

"Market adjustment"? That's exactly what Scion fixed pricing policy is trying to avoid! This dealership should be reported to Scion! When I test drove the FR-S at our Scion a few weeks ago it was total no pressure. Salesman let me go out in both a auto & standard, we chatted about how the car felt, how he has a RX-8 and the FR-S is fun too. You know what, now that I think about it I realize we didn't even talk about the price! He just gave me his card and that was it.

Well thats the best evidence of dealer rip off.... Moto... You were to one to report this was not going to be allowed... So, I guess Toyota doesn't give a crap about their customers and their policies.........

OK, that's ridiculous! Are they getting around that by saying they're a Toyota dealership and not Scion? With that kind of mark-up, I'd drive to next dealer, heck even next state! I'm sure if this were brought to the attention of the right people in Toyota/Scion something would happen, esp if more noise starts appearing among people. And that price is a joke, it puts it totally out of the target market. Mind if I put up that link to a local forum I'm on? The more noise we make about this the better!

That's kind of messed up. Did Apple dealers put a "market adjustment" when they introduce new iPhone? During huricanes and such here, it's illegal for stores to increase their prices.

Well the thing with Scion's policy is Pure PRICE, which means dealers must stay with a marked price for 30 days. Not restricted to sell at MSRP.Before you make any angry rants, please read this. The dealers in the USA are independent, not OWNED by Toyota. So, Toyota can suggest things and contract the way they do business with them that is part of an agreement to be Toyota dealers. But, since dealers are not PART of Toyota in terms of ownership, they are free to sell at any price they choose, only that they need to stick with that price for a month (for Scion cars), if they choose to be a Toyota dealer in the future. Most dealerships that DO business according to Toyota's guidelines do sell at close to or at MSRP. A great number of them do not, and charge a markup for cars like FRS which they can't get enough. It goes without saying that those that DO sell at MSRP do get a lot of customers, and the way it works is these volume dealers DO get MORE FRS and other high demand cars regularly and more often. Those that sell at huge markup do not move as many cars and are forced to charge more to stay afloat, since they can't get more than a handful like 2-3 a month. So like buying anyting from any independently owned store, whether a bunch of bananas or TV sets, its really the customer's job to find the right independent dealer to buy at the right price. ANY USA dealers will, for a nominal fee much less than that of these outrageous $5000+ markup for FRS, WILL ship and register a car in any State. So do some looking around all around the USA. Chances are you will find a dealer who can sell you at MSRP. Ther are many, only that they have a wait list because of this. In the case of APPLE, most of thier products are sold through thier own enterprises or collaborative partners like Verizon and ATT, which they all agreed to sell at Fixed prices, since they don't need to deal with independent owners and dealers for the most part.

Ah, ok, thanks for clearing that up Moto. So best we can do is to just get word of mouth out to people that they don't have to pay these prices if they can find an alternative. It's kinda sad seeing this though. In my mind there's no way it's worth that much to me to be the first one on the block to have one. I think Toyota shouldnt ignore this though. Price it like this out of the market, people won't buy, initial slow sales figures, dealers left with dead stock, reduce price, but by then seeing slow sales Toyota cancels production. That's just my take, I don't know if that really happens. At that price were talking BMW 1.

Yes, Penske and Longo Scion, as well as DCH Torrance CA, have at least to have sold most of them at MSRP. It really depends as in-stock cars may have added items, while pre-order cars may have nothing and at MSRP. Just takes a bit of talking to express your desires here. Toyota is not ignoring it and encourage the privately owned dealerships to sell at MSRP. Only some choose to not heed this in favor of thier own business tactics which Toyota can't control to full extent if they want to keep a vast netwrok of dealers in the USA. And Toyota is well aware of the scenario this time, and are in this for the long run. I doubt the production will cease anytime soon as GLOBAL prodcution for the cars are way over the production capacities at this time, and for perahps a several years to come. More like the first and second gen MR2 here, than failed cars of more recent times, and this time, with demands not just in Japan and USA, but with 22 other nations that will eventually get this car under either Subaru or Toyota names and dealers.

Has the MSRP gone up already???

As i work for Toyota i know they can not mark up the price for any scion on the lot!!! bottom line!!! The only way a the dealership (Not Toyota) can ask for a different price is to add things to the car. the picture that was posted was made by the dealership not Toyota!!! The car can be altered in the dealer but the base price will always be the same. that is the same with the APR%. any way just dont buy the car with the add-on's you can order them. i picked mine up for more then the base price but that's because i didn't like the seats and wanted leather. lucky for me i worked at the dealer and they gave me the leather for very cheap.

I have seen some ridiculous markup with the after market parts applied. I had found a white MT in Oregon and the dealer was trying to sell it for 35k. Although the car had every possible accessory, still seemed ridiculous. I finally found a white on that I got an out the door agreement of 25k. They are just hard to find.
