New hotness, to replace the hotness, that replaced the old hotness Reply  Edit

I've been putting off making a build thread on this car for some time now, but seeing as how nothing new is happening on this site, why throw some encouragement out there for people to build their cars? So, to make a long story short, lets get you up to speed!

I had this:

Then someone did a hit and run on it outside my house.

I got no insurance money. The guy that hit me, never found him. So I salvaged what I could from the car and took out a loan and built my next levin! The hotness to replace the hotness!

I picked the car up as a rolling chassis for $1500. It had been sitting under a tree in someone's backyard for years. The dead rats and the sh!t smell came free with the car

Threw my first 20v in that bad boy. Met Mr. John aka John Russakoff and began harassing him with questions and work...."This John guy is full of sh!t, this water routing doesn't work mannnnnn.....the headgasket is on UPSIDE DOWN!?!?!....fock."

And then I started drifting....

And then I saved up enough money to go S2000 swap!

But all good things come to an end I guess Then things got bad. During a traffic stop it was discovered the S2000 transmission I bought from a seller on here was STOLEN. SURPRISE!!!!! Go figure, the seller forgot to mention that! Thanks pal!

What followed was a year long court process. A living nightmare. The police were convinced that *hand to god* I was "the leader of a ring of streetracing car theives". It didn't matter that I had the classified ad for the trans, the picture and home address of the seller and his phone number. I was the last guy holding the bag. Felony possession of stolen property. Three years in prison. (And moto refuses to have a seller grading system on this site. Yeah.)

It took a year, A WHOLE YEAR, for the courts to see the writing infront of them. I work three jobs, never been in trouble, belong to three anti-street racing organizations including one belonging to the LAPD, and I didn't know a thing.

Wrong place at the REALLY REALLY wrong time. But, not wanting to get the sh!t sue'd out of them or admit fault for the wrongful arrest they had to charge me with something right?!!? What did I get you ask?.....$100 fine for playing my stereo too loud in the city. But hey, since we made you spend the night in jail, we'll be nice and waive the fine. BTW, jail food sucks and the people there are surprisingly nicer than you think. I didn't have to kill a man to gain respect. They said what's up and we played dominos and ate some top ramen til I posted bail lol. I ain't planning on making no reservations any time soon though! As Jasen put it: "+10,000 pts street cred for going to jail for your corolla"

The Levin however, it shall remain in limbo. Car purgatory. Seized property of the state until they deem fit to release it. So I ain't waiting around for that noise seeing as how efficient and fair the legal system is.

So that's two Levins now. Lost to the ages. *sigh*

I got a lot of support though from other members on here and close friends that got me through it all. I've thanked you all before but I still feel as though it is never enough. So again, that you all. All you corolla hoodrats for pitching in. Through donations and support, I built another corolla, and was back on the track

JDM bumpers, some Tomei PonCams for the bone stock bluetop the car had in it. Then it's back to the track to cause some damage!!!

It took them 45 mins to figure out what engine it was. Guy had to call tech support. And I qoute the d-bag "no no the letters go the other way. It's a sideways Type R engine" Cali sucks. Come for the chicks but leave your race car at home.

Gurl, you fat. You need to go on a diet.

Let's clean you up too and do some stitch welds.

And then with the help of some goofballs, we started making some bash bars for other corolla guys. Under the name "SwangBiz", an inside joke in reference to a ghetto spot in Compton where people go to drink 40's and do burnouts in dubbed out impalas.

With the 16v sold, I picked up a used and abused BT 20V engine. So we went ahead and rebuilt that sh!t. I tore the engine down and sent it off to the machine shop to be bore'd over .50mm.

Picked up some ACL race bearings, some NPR rings, and some brand new AE111 .50 oversized pistons from Herb down at Cabe Toyota in Long Beach. Parts together I checked tolerances on engine, deburred some of the junk casting spots and assembled the bottom end.

Keep on prepping the engine bay for it's new heart

With the engine bay just about done, it was time to move on to the interior a little bit. I cut out everything that wasn't needed. Took out all the sound deadening and gave it a fresh coat. The goofballs even helped make me a harness bar!

Picked up a Cusco trunk lid for the coupe! Girl's on a diet ya know.

Took that ratty old dash and spent $18 and bought some black suede and did a lame job of wrapping the dash. Hey, I'm a mechanic, no tailor lol.

Then I'm going to work this into the picture. Every thing will function properly. The coolant temp will be recalibrated to be more accurate and the speedo will work accurately too. Ran into a few snags with this, but I'm about 95% done. I'm hoping to be the first to run this S2k cluster with a 4AG. I'm still working on this and I'm not going to let the cat out the bag on how I did it just yet lol

I want the interior to mimic the Aussie TRD Group A Levin's....effin' tops...

Keep on putting the car back together again. Got some new fenders too. I think the general theme of all of my friends cars, mine included now, is that they are ratty on the outside but suspension and engine bay is all business.

I started moving on to the wiring here in this picture. As of this week, I've concluded that there isn't a single wire on this car that hasn't been modified in some way. Everything in the engine bay has been cut, removed, and tucked away. The fuse box is in the cabin now tucked under the dash. The brake components I have relocated as well in to the cabin. The proportioning valve and all hardlines are under the dash now. I used custom length stainless lines to route everything inside. What you see in the engine bay shots is ALL you are going to see in the engine. No wiring. No brake lines. Just engine and radiator.

Gave the valve cover some new paint too. TRD inspired. All the valve covers on their race cars sucked. I felt that it needed a logo and a throwback to the old TRD racing colors, similar to the BMW E30 race cars.

Right now the motor for the most part is ready to go.

-ACL main and rod bearings
-AE111 .50 over pistons
-Installed new toyota echo valve stem seals in the head
-Installed an AE92 oil pump paired with a AE101 ST 20v timing belt in order to delete the hydraulic tensioner that fails. It also cut back on cost by like $400 seeing as how everything is available here in the USA. The hydro tensioner is known to fail and I don't like the idea of a manual tensioner. The spring tensioner allows the belt to move and flex a little, putting force on the tensioner. A solid spacer I feel isn't going to take that force and just transfer it to the belt, making the belt stretch and maybe fail.
-Tomei 20v PonCams installed too. I'm really excited to try these cams out, I loved the 16v cams!

This week I'm moving on to the engine wiring. With this I wanted to do something different than I've ever done and flex my wiring nuts too lol. The 20v engine didn't come with a wiring harness and no one had one for sale. So next best thing! Go to the junk yard and clip off plugs and make your own!

With this harness all three engine harnesses will be combined into one main harness that exits the center of the firewall near the distributor. The alternator wiring, the starter wiring and the engine wiring are all in one harness now, the way it should have been done. No alternator wiring by the passenger wheel well anymore, no starter wire bridge from the driverside wheel well. Everything custom using just junk I had laying around, some flex tubing and a lot of shrink wrap. I have about 20hrs into this harness so far with no plans on doing this again.

And on a side note, how long have we been doing 20v swaps and there still isn't a wiring diagram for a 20v in english anywhere? So dumb.

So that's where I've been and where I'm at. If there's anything to be learned, it's to never give up. When life kicks you in the nuts, just harden the phuck up, build another car and sneak up on it when it's in the showers to shank it and leave it twitching in a pool of it's own p!ss......or what? quit? pfffff

I'll keep building corollas. Keep helping young bucks build corollas and keep giving white knuckle ride alongs. This six pack needs a drinkin and my wiring needs a solderin' so see ya soon

T3 front coilovers w/ 8k eibachs
T3 camber plates
T3 NRCAs
T3 Outer Tie Rods
T3 Front Caster Rods
NST rack spacer
AE72 manual rack

Swift 5.5k rear springs
KYB AGX shocks
T3 traction brackets
T3 panhard bar
ARP Lexus IS300 extended studs all around
Urethene 4 link inserts

It's a pretty basic cookie cutter AE86 setup. After having so many corollas and running full catalogs of suspension parts, I really don't need anything else. I've kinda learned that I don't need a bazooka to kill a fly, just enough to get the job done. Hence the 20v engine again instead of the S2000 swap and keeping some of the stock suspension pieces.
