 Accessory Question Reply  Edit

Hello all,

As I'm nearing the completion of my AE86 restoration, I have hit a little snag. The motor I have to put in the car is a blacktop 20v 4AG. I am wanting to run power steering, air condition, and whatever alternator I need. I suppose what I am wanting to know is, do any of you know the best way to get all these accessories to work with this motor in a rear wheel drive car? (brackets, etc?)

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Matt

So if I do that, all of the accessories will work? I mean it seems right, they are basically the same block right?

identical blocks. you need to grind down your alternator bracket a little to clear the hydraulic timing tensioner. and if i remember correctly you have to grind some of the water pump(if using the rwd) for the timing idler pulley. really easy to do just position your parts and you will see what you need to grind/file

Excellent sir, many thanks! I suppose Im going to use the FWD cooling setup, I came across a good deal on the relocation kit for that a while back, but that shouldnt be too much of an issue will it?

Confirming RWD 16v parts will work on 20v blacktop with some alterations. The alternator bracket needs some grinding to clear a rib on the block near the dipstick. There was some slight clearance problem with the PS pump that required shaving the plastic cam gear cover a tad and shoving it all the way to the left. I am using the 16v PS pump and it works fine.

I'm not sure about AC because I removed mine, but the bracket fits.

The 16v crank pully is used but probably needs to be shaved on the back depending on what specific version of 20v you have. I belive AE111 all requre it. There is a post in a sticky thread somewhere that has a method to fix the problem using a timing gear from a diffrent engine, but I decided to KISS and use a shaved pulley.

To sort the crank pulley out, check out the section "Toyota Front Pulley" on the page here:

I have no idea about the FWD kit, except to say that I've been told by a pulley vendor that FWD/MR 4AGEs have belts closer to the engine, so probably can't mix/match FWD/RWD accesories.
