RX7, Ford, Celica Rear Ends? Reply  Edit

Okay I know this might be over whelming since there have been NUMEROUS "Rear End" threads, but I have searched to an extent on the site for rear end options. I liked the idea of some people when they brought up the SA RX7 rear end. But my question/concern is what type of modifcations would have to be done in order to bolt up? I also wouldn't mind the 8.8 rear end idea, but I don't want to end up custom fabbing a ton of stuff just for a Ford rear end to fit in the Corolla. I would love to get more information, or possibly a write up on the SA RX7, and the 8.8 Ford rear ends. I also have access to a 78ish Celica for $100. I was just going to use that rear end, but after searching and reading that it's almost pointless, and a lot of work to put it in I don't want to do it. I'll pry just buy it to part it out. But yeah if anyone has information about the RX7 or the 8.8 swaps LMK! I want some what of detailed information so I can get my GTS back on the road.

I think some one with extensive knowledge on the subject should do an install and well document it. Then sticky it for everyone to see.

Yeah that would be nice. I just want to know because the rear end on my SR5 is the rear from my GTS. But the rear end doesn't have disc brakes, or LSD. The rear end thas on the GTS now, is like completely shot. Both axles are messed up and pull out w/out unbolting anything. So I think it's unfixable, and I just want a better rear end.

Heres the sccop. I have access to a 1985 RX7 Police Interceptor rear end for $150. If anyone can give me details regarding what I would have to do to the rear end prior to installing then I will pick it up ASAP. LMK, thanks!!

the FB rear end gives you no gains over the 86' rear end. If anything there are less upgrade options for it.. If your pushing nig power through it then go with the 8.8.
If you want better 'grip driving ', bite the bullet and do an FC rear end the beauty of the FC rear end is it's ALL self contained on the subframe.. the only thing that you attach to the 86' frame, ( besides the sub frame), is a rear-subframe stabilizer bar, that if made adjustable, is a very good rear camber tool.

I cut down a Hilux/Surf dif (I dont know what you call them in the US) for my KP Starlet.
I think its what they call a "G" type which is 8". I had the axles cut down and resplined, I was able to shorten the housing myself and straighten it, I am running an equal length 4 link with panhard rod. All links are thick walled aluminium tube with rodends. I also machined down the axle flanges and redrilled them to 4x114.3. I am in the process of adapting on some Willwood 4 pot calipers and seperate mechanical handbrake calipers. I am using rear rotors off an Opel Vectra that are 10mm thick and fit easily inside my 15" wheels.
I am lucky because I can do all the fabricating myself apart from the axle resplining.
The photo shows the 4 link setup, there are adjustable springseats fabricated into the body above to adjust height/corner weights

If it doesn't fit, force it.
If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway

This photo shows the tubes for the adjustable spring seats, top link tubs and new rear crossmember. The vehicle is a lot further along now than these photos show
