my GTS build---lots of pics Reply  Edit

what i started with: cut springs, stripped interior, and a beat up engine

painted the bumpers(and someone clipped my rear in the parking lot the next day, sweet)
i installed Megan springs, KYB GR-2 shocks, T3 RCA's, T3 camber plates, Prothane bushings, strut tower bars, and Magnacore wires almost immediately, then i bought a Paceseter header and OBX catback and put those in. i used Krylon Fusion paint (supposed to adhere to plastic well, and it does, cant even tell the difference between the real black interior pieces and the painted ones)to paint what was left and also started sourcing out some authentic black interior pieces

first things first, the seat rail was from a 240sx, i was looking out the driver side window it was so krooked, Nagisa seat rails, a little fab and engineering, and their straight and then i chopped the back brackets and welded them back over an inch lower(im 6'3", kinda needed to do that), now i sit nice and low

spruced up the engine bay a bit, lovin the powdercoated red valve covers

interior needs door panels and the back seats need to be replaced, the spacer between the steering wheel and hub, and the rear tower brackets were CNC machined and engineered by yours truly(im a machinist by day, which helps out a lot)

time to tear this 20v apart, using the crank, rods, block, and a few other things and putting on a newly rebuilt bluetop head and new 16v pistons

looks like she was running rich, lots of carbon buildup

heres the tear down-

squirt, squirt...

me being a ginger

Dan, he wants a coupe and then we can do a build off, or so he says, sounds great!

Mike, hes the owner of the basement, jersey cold in the winter

...

what a spread, the journals on the crank are immaculate, the cylinder bores are too, makes this a lot easier on my stress level

got her running today(1/12/08)and went to the meet at Mitsuwa in jersey, heres a few of my ride and 'taks86's at the meet. still dont trust the current engine, its still coming out

goodies!!

had these for a while, an offer i couldnt pass up right after i got the car, itchin to put them on.

got this sweet old school TRD leather shifter with the gears embossed on the center piece(cant see them when driving)

just go the oil cooler and filter adapter(no, the guy who sold me the car didnt have one on)

lookin down at my baby

Looks like a nice build. Just please ditch that ebay steering wheel, it's so unsafe. They flex like crazy, put the stock one in until you buy a nice steering wheel.

Inspirational dude. (Lol, I'm a few years behind in in "project start quality", but still inspirational.)

You say the Krylon worked well? Attacked some donor interior pieces on my Camaro back in the day... (I'm 24, do I even have a "day" to be "back in" yet?) ...with the rattlecan stuff thats supposedly specifically For auto plastics, after soaking the pieces in detergent and priming 'em (yea, with the same brand primer), they still started crackling within the month.

My 86's interior is dripping in old person burgundy. Several shades, actually due to uneven sun fade levels... annnd I'm going to quit hijacking your thread talking about my project and leave it at the question "So the Krylon worked well?". Sorry!

P.S. Wheel/tire fit is perfect

nothing to be sorry about, and yeah, the 'krylon Fusion' works good, its been a year and no change. you dont need primer with it, just wipe the pieces down w/ammonia first. or just clean good w/dish soap, thats what i did.

Re: my GTS build---lots of pics (cmorganae86) » Reply  Edit

it was beautiful today sooo...

i painted the door sills i was working on, shave the ribs off and sanded them smooth, looks nice. it just took a bunch of hours(while i was at work, shh.) and a few shoulder rubs.

then decided it was time to finally start back up on the engine rebuild. heres my buddy Dan wire brushing the 7 rib.

then its power washing time w/Simple Green and 2 hours of time. she was grimy.

and of course, taping it off.

now to paint, 1200 degree flat black, doing the oil pan too.

Finished product, im happy with it!

the rebuild will continue this week, just need to pick up a piston ring compressor.

have a 0.8mm TRD head gasket from Max coming soon too. and im supposed to be picking up new doors tomorrow too.
