Dont make the japan car fit america. Use your american car and fit all the japanese ae86 parts to it. That was simple. No customs.

2009 you can bring a 1984 AE86 to the USA legally
but you still need to pass smog
shouldn't be that hard to do

don't know how the smog regs are in your area but here in Colorado if a vehicle is more than 25 years old you can get collector plates that make the car smog exempt. just pass the smog exam one final time before registering as a collector vehicle and you're good to go

cali has no more rolling smog exemptions.

its either exempt, or not.

74 and under are exempt
75 + damned forever.

and just because you can import one doesnt make it smog exempt, max has it right. its hits the 25yr mark and becomes a "collectable", the customs people then see it as not a car per say... but a vehicle thats so old its historical.... so you can own it and drive it ( i think, wording is comfusing ). but it still has to meet the requirements for the year it was made, i.e smog.

as far as converting a jdm to usdm.

like someone said, it will probably be easier to convert the usdm to jdm stuff. the JDM car wont have a vin that the DMV will recognize, etc. etc.

wow I cuss too much

1975 cars you dont have to smog
the rolling 30 year clock only lasted one year
That is because Arnold passed the law with out even taking it to the polls
The people of california had no say in the matter
what an effe'ing shame

Yea if you want a corolla from japan it wouldn't be cheap
5000~10,000 for a clean one in Japan
1500 for title fee's
1500~3000 for shipping
and thats just for starters

well as for fees I don't know how mutch it will cost. he knows some good people in high places. He is telling me it would be around 3,000 for the car and shipping. might be worth it even if I don't drive the thing around.
