AE86 Paint and Chassis Codes Reply  Edit

Over the past couple of years I've searched the net for this information. Most of it was out there, and other Hachi enthusiasts helped me fine tune it. It seems that this chart is fairly accurate now, but feel free to pop your hood and check your color code against my information. Look on your VIN plate attached to the firewall for the line that says Color/Trim. The first three characters after that are your color code. Let me know if you have information that doesn't match. Note: This is for US-spec cars only at this point.

Also, I am on the search for dealer brochures for the classic Corollas. If you have one please give me a shout so we can get it scanned and posted for everyone to view.

Good eye! I think I might have known that the SportCross didn't come out at the same time as the sedan, but I certainly forgot it! Thanks for the tip.

The brown coupe is neither color i mentioned.

The yellow ones are obviously painted, on the hatch in the garage there is overspray on the bolt/plastic tab in the fenderliner. Also note the blue/gray interior, which would NEVER be on a yellow car.

The levin and hatch arent even in this country, let alone stock color.

Pics of a yellow car dont prove that, color code vin plate and real cars would, i have owned 5 ae's in 10 years, still have 3. custom = custom

In japan there was a yellow levin, coupe. as nearly every levin is a coupe with whiteline tails.

if you look at the coupe at the track with the interior gutted its yellow in there.im not saying its proof but why would you go through all that trouble to paint an interior but have absolutly no modifications to the body ie: roll cage, body kit and so forth.

p.s. the brown coupe is the color your mentioning.if you go to the site and click the little camera icon next to the color code the cars with that color pop up.if thats not light topaz metallic i dont know what else it would be?

Here is my AE86 (with a buddies MR2), does this look like 8D4 to you guys?

Damn all this arguing over such an ugly color. It did happen I have seen two in the yards both not resprayed in anyway. Stock factory paint. We dont see them much because when they were new people thought they were ugly then too.

Oh and to the OP thanks for the post very informative.

i have an 86 coupe sr5, has some champagne looking color. could you help me figure out what the oem color code is? or I'm going to take my fender with good paint to my paint distributor and have him match it.

I have a few vids on youtube as well
please look up " Makako Tuning " and you can see the color there.
i do a walk around with the " new RAD" video i have.

It would be wonderful if you could help me locate the oem color of my car as when i am finished with the rust repair and restoration i am putting the same color back on from full chassis stripdown, so the engien bay, interior, trunk, underbody, roof, etc. will all be repainted.

Sorry, not sure exactly what is the paint code but, you do not have to remove your fender to show your body-shop.
Just remove your GAS DOOR and they can find / match the color for you.

There's a bone stock SR5 coupe painted light Topaz a block from my gf's.
Every time we go by it, she can't believe it's the same type of car that we're in.

Yeah, that's why reading is an important thing.

You read the color code, look it up in a big book (or online these days) and the paint company has a list of whatever pigments and all are needed to match it up to stock.

Except--that's a match for new stock. And after 20+ years of sunlight and UV, most paint colors will have shifted or bleached out some, so the skill of the paint shop comes in matching what you've got. Unless you're doing a full repaint.

The color of the undercoats, primer, clearcoat, also all affect final color, so matching just the factory color code is just the start.

Has the 2C5 ("two tone") ever actually been confirmed on an 85 GT-S ? It wasn't offered to me, but then again I made my purchase in April or May, and in 6/85 there were a number of production changes.
