Hey Brother, Yeah I can't believe I was abotu to put her outta her misery. I called Kaze at his Mom's house last night and told him the good news, he was happy as hell. Blue will go back turbo. I will let Kaze beat up my Trueno until he gets the feel for the N/A 86. I don't know what Jay needs for the turbo motor. Just bought some gapless rings. You know how every one kept telling me it was bad rings, bad valve seals, etc etc etc making her smoke towards the end? Turns out I was right, the oil return line was the problem. Now I have an HKS cast manifold that will bring the turbo forward so the oil return line doesn't have to be routed all crazy like. It's gonna be fun. But we gotta get started on the body first before the motor. I need to cut the fenders for the over fenders. I got the same fenders as this Levin.

Cool story. So you are going to be doing all the metal work, welding and all that other body stuff yourself, or will cutting out the fenders for the flares basically take care of your rust problems? Those flares you going to put on look so sick, I wish I could get those flares for my AW11 (stupid flares made to fit the 86 bumpers, lol). Good luck with the restoration.

Yes, I'll be doing all the work. I've overhauled 86's in WAY worse condition at FatDaddy's shop, so it shouldn't be hard. Finding the time is going to be the biggest problem. I was recently promoted, I make less money with 10x more work, gotta love govt. jobs, haha. The rust isn't so bad compared to most 86's I've seen locally. I have a couple of spots on the forward passenger door jamb and a pretty good spot on the rear drivers and passengers door jambs. I will order a whole new rear tail light panel from Toyota if availiable, if not, I'll just get one off of Yahoo auctions. I got lucky with the flares, they were $30 from a friend, I was going to make copies, but don't have time. Wish I could take a trip to the PI, hehe. They do good work for DIRT CHEAP, like can't friggin believe how cheap, haha. Thank you for the encouraging words. | Quote, originally posted by AE86STALKER » | | yea, ill give him your email, he's is 18 i think, might still be 17, but should be 18 now, lol, im sure he'll be drifting around there somewhere, lol |

Seriously bro... you've got 12 years to do all this, why sweat the details now. Why let someone restore the car while you and your son can do it. It'd be a great father son bonding project. Patch whatever big spots you have and work on it little by little.

Today woke up early and got ready to work on Blue, Kaze was already dressed waiting for my old a$$. We get outside and I realize that all I have are basic tools, since my tool bag, Jack, everything else is in my Trueno sitting at JasonK's parents house, damn. I scrounge together a 10mm 12mm combo wrench, a couple screw drivers, a knife, and a 10mm socket and ratchet, All's Good YO!!

I get to wrenchin, I'm not used to people helping me when I work, so after about ten minutes I look up and see Kaze lookin at me, he says "Can I do something". I felt like a sh!thead, I got him started on removal of the fenders, corner lights, bumper, and headlights, while I got a body hammer and screwdriver and stabbed and banged on the rust spots looking for weak spots and more cancer.
I check the typical front end rot spot for the 86

I hit up the lil bit of surface rust with some sand paper and shot spraypaint over the area to keep the rust from spreading any more, till I get to those areas later on. Eventually I will grind and cut out all of the rust and replace with steel or FRP, depending on the area. I was please with what I saw, it wasn't near as bad as I thought. I've repaired 86's at Fatdaddy's shop with NO front door jamb due to rust, so compared to that car, Blue is in great shape. The fire wall rust was light, caused by a leaky clutch master, it'll be sanded down, spot puttied and painted.

Got out the Revolver overfenders and test fitted them to get an idea on how much stock fender I gotta cut off. The front overfenders came already installed on some boro fenders, they will be swapped.

Getting a feel for the old girl :thumb:

It was a pretty good day, got a bit done, just takin it slow. Thanks for checkin out Kazes hotrod build up :headbang: Chris http://www.TeamHinga.net

Hey Pare, Sorry for the delay. I had been workin my ass off on Blue, but it seemed the deeper I dug, the more rot I would find. She is salvageable, but I want the car to last a LONG TIME for Kaze, so recently I aquired a frame in great shape. I asked Kaze if it were alright to put his parts on the new car, he said it was cool with him. The car belonged to a very close friend (HiComp4AG) a long time ago, and the current owner was going to strip her and send her to the scrapyard. I asked if I could have the frame and he said he'd rather see it restored that junked. SO I got her. Here she is "BlueII" Right now I'm tearing her all the way down to fix a couple of problem spots, then paint her and rebuild her. Damn, wish I was as gangster as Battleversion, so I could get the frame powdercoated, haha. You guys in the states are loaded. I plan on having all of the nooks and crannies coated in POR15, and weld in new metal in the door jambs to keep her alive until the next time I gotta restore her, hopfully a LONG time from now. Sorry for the rant, here are the pics: | Quote, originally posted by Hinga » | | The fate of ole Blue is unknown at the moment. I've been hackin and patchin on her, but it seems the more I dig, the more I find. If you know me, then you'll know I will try to fix the problem no matter how bad it is. Already tore into the drivers side framerail to fix rot, the deeper I go, the more cancer I find. Guess I should have built the garage sooner, the rain here kills these old cars. Well, I recently got hooked up with the frame, it's got a couple of sore spots that need a little TLC, but nothing as bad as what Blue has. The first night she was parked over at my house Kaze was ALL OVER the car. He jumped in the drivers seat and went though the gears, walked around inside, walked around outside, he was stoked. So I asked him if it was alright to put Blues parts on this car, told him that this frame was in better condition and that it was Uncle Jay's (JasonK) old car. I expected him to be sad, but he just gave me a big smile and said "PUT MY HOOD ON THIS CAR!!". I was relieved. I think since he has been workin with me on Blue, he has seen first hand the work that needed to be done to bring her back. So as of now, I gotta figure what to do with Blue. Scrap her or make her a Track only car? BlueII will be ready for a complete work over soon, then painted inside and out Calsonic Blue like her sister. I will post up pics of BLUEII when I get time :headbang: The original Blue was beat the hell down when I bought her back in 99. rear fenders were pushed in, lateral bracket snapped off, and alot of rust. BlueII 's rear fenders are in good condition, not near as much rust as the original, and the frame seems stout. Can't wait to start workin her over. Gumby did a great job patching what problems she did have. Best of all is this is JasonK's old car, the white Levin that he sold and bought countless times, haha. So I'm stoked that we are keeping her in the family and Jay will get to see his old girl grow old with us, **** probably outlast us even, if Kaze takes care of her. which I'm positive he will. |

Yeah, I talk to FatDaddy daily, he's still here with a lot full of nice cars, he just picked up two beautiful 86's from the mainland. Both BONE STOCK, stock radios, sus, wheels, haha. He plans on keeping them stock and using them as dailies.

Hey Brother, How are you doin?? Yup, Kaze will be turning the big 7 soon, hard to believe how fast the boys are growing. Dunno what he'll get yet, probably parts for his car. He should have everything already, but he might want to update the seat and steering wheel, they're tore up. A girl emailed me yesterday asking about drifting. She lives in Colorado, so I told her to get with you, hehe. Daijobu?

I always thought he was a hardcore Levin guy, but the other day I teased him by saying "I'm gonna throw a Trueno front on your car!", he said "Cool, then it will look like yours!", he said either one is cool, he likes both. Today I took half the day off from work. So I got home and planned on attacking the trunk and back window area on Kaze's car. I've pulled MANY rear windows out of 86's and have never had any problems. Well, whoever did the last install, used sealant to seal the window. so when I pried, the window exploded. I cleaned up the mess and attacked the rear window area. After sanding and painting, I took the rear window out of Blue and installed it on Kaze's car. Also hung the front fenders with the overfenders to see what it would look like. Dunno, I might just roll the fronts and save the Revolver overfenders for a future project. I really don't want to hack her rear fenders or WhiteGirls body. Hmm, maybe Track the old Blue with overfenders?? hehe, I'm feelin it

Sorry, nothing too interesting today. I did buy all new stainless hex bolts for the whole car, they were surprisingly cheap TeamHinga.net

Kaze knows what's up When I got my beater 2nd AE86 after my nice 1st one was wrecked, it felt much more like "my" car once I transferred all the nice parts over from the first. Your favorite parts plus all your own blood sweat and tears is what makes a car yours.

If he does prefer the Trueno instead of Levin you could always donate those Levin pieces to a stateside Levin lover
