This is what we need! A car project that is different for a change compare to most threads I have read on this site. That is going to be a nice project to read along the way. I can't wait to see the stages this car will be.I like the your logo you putted on the Blank 4AG cam covers you did. a nice touch.

Well... I went and picked up Surreptitious yesterday... and brought her to her new home...Now that she is in her new home I can begin to reveal a bit more of where Surreptitious is headed.....

Note the gently bulged 1/4s and fenders.... That will be one of the body mods Surreptitious will receive..... Concerning headlamp and tail lamps... The M3 look MAY be part of the plan... but as of now I'm not certain there..... although since this is custom........ superior headlamps like the Beemers projector system are very desireable.... Something like this grill....
 into this nose....
Hmmmmmm maybe.... add one of Rhett's FOHA lower lips....

PLENTY more to come......

Well.... I was cautious... and so lost out on TRUE OLDE shool wheels. First let me back up a bit.... I've done some further research into the NASCRAP steelies... and there is a somewhat light version... but it uses a .080" thick spun rim. This can and does dent/bend easily... their regular rim material is .125", and these wheels weight over 20#s......... So I was searching and I found an extraordinarily rare set of SSR wheels... (btw... how rare you might be asking.... So rare that besides the photo I posted I know of ONLY one other photo!!!! The SSR "Air Stage". They were built during the turbine phase in wheel building(70s to early 80s) What was unusually about these is they were PERFECTLY sized for the AE72/AE86, being 15" x 6.5(+18), and 15 x 7(+3). You can see the staggard offset in the pic below....
Next time if I really want something I'm going to expend a bit more energy in acquiring it.......
For now... I've been able to acquire a full set of 15" Supras...

Yep.... I'm going for a bit more subtle then the Group4 racer... but you can see the way the project is drifting.... I don't want to scare away all the boys in their Hondas(and rich boys in their beemers) The AE72 appears to be as much as 200# lighter than the AE86... so that along with the new engine should show significant results. Think you can find me that set of Air Stage Wheels????

yep.... along with a full set of TRD bushings, HTS112 dampers, likely custom springs, a 4.30 6.7" GTS diff WITH rear disc brakes, and the one and likely only 6 speed....

Yeah, subtle look for a group4 kit would be nice.....you are right, you shouldn't scare the other cars around....hahaha. If you have a pic of the wheels the please post it. Maybe I have something of the same look I can suggest to you.

Interesting...saw something cool/rare in the classifieds: http://forums.club4ag.com/zerothread?id=40774. I believe it says 'rear spoiler'. I'm just assuming that it *could* fit.Great build BTW, the powerplant is looking so sick. J/W if you ever thought of using the AE111 rods (since you already had the flywheel) before choosing to go with the AE86 rods.

its been a loooong cold snowy winter so far... not a lot of progress.... ...until recently
1) The engine has the cam timing now set(112 degrees as per Web camshafts) - thank you Jesse... 2) I've heard a rumour that FJO is shipping our assemblers the 341b2 units. That would mean engine management should on its way! 3) I've heard another rumour.... about the trans... 4) I now have a full set of TRD bushed suspension arms(frt and rear) ready for final assembly. 5) I've called Fensport ( http://www.fensport.co.uk/part...s.htm ) about a custom set of spring - 5.2kg/mm frt, 3.5 kg/mm rear with only 3/4-1" drop.

The springs are ordered... and should be delivered the first week in March, thank you Tony! 2 sets of springs for just under $300 per set of 4 (INCLUDING the freight!!!) - I had Fensport duplicate a set of TRD rally springs for my friend Jesse... this is my friend Jesse... he likes playing in the dirt
The differential is now settled... Using a stock 4.30 with a solid pinion spacer, and overhauled by Weir Performance. Thank you for your prompt service Spence. For now... I'm sticking with an open diff. yes... an open diff, I'm not a drifter, I drive for grip. I may... regret this decision.... but for now I'm choosing handling balance in favor of maximum grip.
Oh....... special engineering update here.... *IF* I had ordered full ride height springs.... the HTS112s would have allowed fitment without the need for any special adapters... or loose spring fitment.
BUT I didn't order full ride height...I had them made where the front drop will be 20mm, rear drop to be 10mm. So... there will be a gap between the opened HTS strut, and the top of the spring. The gap is between 15mm and 19mm. I'm having Jesse machine me two 19mm top spacers. here is something like the stance I'm going for....
For those that wonder why I don't slam it... slamming it doesn't help handling... proper springs, stabilizers, and dampers are all needed in proper amounts to make a car handle well. Besides... when I'm "stalking" you... you will suspect me less if the car rides at, or near stock height..........

Well... the winter is over(mostly).....
I have an appointment to try and keep for sometime in May...... So... off with the cover
Push her back from her fall and winter hibernation location.... yeah... she came with no engine...

Now there is a small problem... from vast expereince... the front end of the car should be pointed out of the garage to allow the best access to the engine bay. Pointed out also gives me the most light. Hmmmm, you'll note the hill behind my car.... it isn't something that is easily pushable against.... .... Sooooooo, (sorry no pics of this) we pushed it out in the inclined street(note street behind car)... moved the IS300 above it on the street... pulled the AE72 up the street with the IS300... so that when released from the IS300, the car would roll back into the driveway... tail end first.....
Nestled.....

EVERY car that has made it into THAT garage has come out under its own power..... Now that she is in the garage... there should be a more steady stream of updates........

I have high hopes for this car. The detail alone for the engine build gives me a hunch. just another image I found that shows you have made a wise choice because these cars can look dope!

Eventually.... the body/chassis will get the follow through... for now, it is get everything in... running and properly tuned............ !st project is to fix my own stupidity..... I bought the car w/o engine... but it did have the trans.... Well to get the car here I towed it... and to make sure the trans didn't hit the dolly when we loaded it... I ziptied the trans to the heater core... Then as my A.D.D. would have it... I forgot... sometime over the winter the load was too great... I now have to get in and remove the heater core BEFORE all the other work......

here are a few new pics.... Interior is in blue... seats are in good condition with no tears.... BUT they have some stains that need attention.
The dash pad is also pretty bad... 2 big cracks... one on either side of the cluster... not sure what I'm doing there.... on the "good" side it does have full instumentation... but neither the tach, nor the speedo are up to the task of this car.......
