Some more work done.

Closed the throttle a little to lower the idle, installed the pipercross air filter and 40mm trumpets.

The filter looks amazing! Will you be routing a cold air pipe to the filter? Does having that brake booster line connected to the Vacuum log have any effect at all in brake assist? I always thought to have the brake booster line connected to the intake manifold for proper vacuum but if it works for you then I might do that as well.

Yes, the brake booster needs to be connected to this vacuum canister or else it won't brake at all.

I'm gonna leave the filter as is. At least for now!

I guess my first statement was confusing. Vacuum is still vacuum no matter where you tap into. Makes for a cleaner install as well. I was just stating that I was originally planning on connecting the brake booster vacuum line to a bung right on the intake manifold adapter for the itbs. Now it looks like I will tap into the vacuum log instead and keep it tuck it somewhere for a cleaner install.

It doesn't pay to restore and modify cars like this overseas. Customs make everything so much more expensive...

Heheh you got that right! Overhere we pay customs like 50% over the c.i.f. value of the goods. Example: one 4AG TODA cam costs US$ 525, we just multiply that with factor 3 to get what we must pay in total in our money to get it installed in the engine. In 2002 my rebuilt "bluetop" with HKS 258/264, Group A crank and rods, ARP hardware etc also cost ~US$10K in total. In today's money it would have been like ~US$14k.

Engine only.

This topic is dying!

I've made some improvements.

Bought a pair of Kent Cams with 298 duration and 9.4mm of lift.

Dynoed it and this is what came out:

Lowered ignition advance by 2 degrees

Comparison between 288 (7.5mm) Toda Camshafts, stock intake and kent cams with ITB's:

And 3 days later, there I was, Estoril racetrack.

Track Day footage!!

Need to change clutch, fix exhaust and big brakes.

For the brakes I've already ordered:

Some news!!

Last saturday did a couple hundred miles with the 86 to do some data logging and get some results. I rarely drive the car on highways so I got some surprises.

5th gear went straight up to the rev limiter at 8900rpm which is 234.77 km/h regarding 4.778 R&P and 195/50R15 tires. GPS gave a reading of 240km/h (150mph).

It is neither the purpous of my car nor the most fun I get from it, but I can't disregard the fact that it is a pretty decent speed there. Never seen videos of AE86 @ Top speed.

The noise from the new exhaust is almost bareable but it is no car for highway driving.

People say the car sounds nicer from the outside.

Some pictures I took:

Did you ever solve the vibration problem????

I have the same symtoms that you were describing. I think the engine mounts aren't supposed to sit on the chassis with the metal flange touching the chassis.

My problem only occurred after replacing engines.
Let me know if you found out what the problem was.

I've got the same deal, bad vibration when decelerating in gear around 3K....

Flywheel power.

The vibration problem was solved in the rear differential. It's not perfect though.

...that's odd then. B/c the only thing that has changed for me was the engine and mounts. Differential remained the same. The search continues...

OK, so....I have a blacktop, which is supposed to be rated at 165 or 170 PS, and it's no where near that fast. I think I'd hit 130mph if I was lucky. Sigh.

More upgrades.

A friend of mine is helping me to do somethings left behind in my car.

Tried to assemble the brembo brake kit that seb sold me but there were some issues. I have to use 7mm wheel spacers and the adapters he made weren't very accurate.

Bought some heatwrap to lower the temperature in the engine bay.

Some pics:

Fuel pressure was raised and changed the injection to sequencial. More mapping to do.

I also found a throttle linkage from a silvertop that didn't came with my itb's.

Finally, my friend gon setup the megasquirt to use the ECON/PWR lighs as a shiftlight.

Some pics from the brake kit soon.

Yesterday I got the Brembo kit installed.

First impression is satisfying. Good brake feeling and power.

Against: Not plug and play and it turns out expensive. You'll need to use wheel spacers and work the calipers to fit the smaller rotors.

Went to an event organized by Drivers Legion at go kart track last saturday, the day before the portuguese annual AE86 meeting.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cCT3dXuWEk

You can watch it in HQ.

The car is simply great. True pleasure to drive.

The big brake kit upgrade feels nice and the suspension is great. gon made some tire pressure adjustments throughout the event that made the difference.

Hi!

Great debut at the new racetrack in Algarve

Some photos to keep this topic up to date.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpmnGzJG3UA

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUavOS2Br4M

Some repairs to do after this last track day.

Have to try and find a possible air bubble inside the brake lines, change 2nd gear synchro and eliminate gearbox's input shaft vibration.

At the end of the day, it is awesome to think how good this car goes on the track. True pleasure to drive.

Best regards
