The Drift Booger! by ToeKnee805 Reply Edit

Well my names Tony, im from the 805. Santa Paula to be exact. This thread is pretty much to keep track of how my cars changed over time. For the first few posts im going to just copy and paste my old posts from a forum i used to be a member of. Since I already had a small thread there, and Ive been working on this since December of 09. Anybody has any comments or suggestions please post up. Id love to hear feedback.

If anyone cares to see whatsup with my lil EightSix heres the thread. Ill post any updates, upgrades, fuckups, pics, etc in here.

Ok so I got my Corolla I believe it was on Dec 6th, 09. It's a 1986 Toyota Corolla GT-S Non-LSD.

I am the official 2rd owner. And 1st owner under 75 yrs old. Some old lady in Morro Bay owned this car, she ended up passing away and gave the car to her sister. Her sister is now in her early 90s i believe and she is the one who sold me the car. I got this car for 2500. 232k miles on the clock. Tranny was smooth, clutch and brakes both needed a bleed. And the engine needed a small tune up.

Heres some pics of Day 1

6 days later SoCal got a HUGE storm and I slid into a newer Corolla and got tboned in the middle of a canyon. You guys probly know the story there was a thread on it....

I had a "hookup" job done by a coworker of my buddies who works at the Chevy dealership in the Bodyshop department for insurance claims. So he's dealt with totalled cars before and I had full confidence in him. He was gonna charge me 1100 to Repair the car, and paint it black. I just had to supply a new door and QP. So I called up a few club4ag forum buddies and we got to cutting a QP in a junkyard in riverside. And i took the door off one of his friends.

This is pretty much the end result...

I received the car and it was making squeaky noises..and had a rotten carpet smell. Found out the rocker had missing welds and was leaking, and I had a bent axle.

So I called the guy out on his Shabby welds and he told me to **** off... I get what I payed for I guess.

I walked away and just said **** it, ill recover my losses and start fresh. I took it out to a guy thats painted my dads truck a couple times and asked him to weld and silicone all the seams on the rocker. 45 minutes later, BAM just like new.

In the darys after that, i had gone junkyard hopping and scavenged some skirts off an ae92 GT-S Had to fab em up a lil to fit but nonetheless they are now on my car.. Not bad for 30 bucks

Also around those days i went forum classifieds hopping and found some nice lil Celica/Supra wheels. These ran me 125 bucks and some gas money..

And shortly after that, i called back the same guy and he had a nice lil TRD style wing. I snagged it right off him as soon as i got a free paycheck... $60 bucks.

LATER....
I went to walmart and bought a cheapy 100 dollar stereo, cause my stock unit didnt work..
Installed it and took some pics. They were taken after work...

Ive had a coolant leak this whole time and now since im starting to get some cash flow in i decided to dig into it. Theres a pipe that goes fromt he Water Pump housing to the Thermostat Housing, which is leaking. I initially thought the headgasket was bad but I ruled that out.

I also painted my TRD replica wing to match the primer

Scuffed the OEM paint with like 500(mine was faded as hell)
Threw a THINNNN layer of Black Primer from a rattle can. I believe it was the cheap Krylon can.
Wetsanded the primer with 500 grit.
Wetsanded again with like 800 grit
Gave the car a bath with Lacquer thinner and a clean rag.
Went to Car Quest and bought:
Quart of Single Stage Bimmer Black from like 03 ($33)
Quart of Single Stage Porsche GT3 Green from 07($33)
Pint of something called an Activator ($35)
Mixed 1 part Activator with 6 parts Paint and threw it in the gun and had my friend spray it with a Harbor Freight Paint Gun. About 1 light Coat and 1 HEAVY coat. We ran out of paint doing my PS fender, you can see it looks darker than the rest of the car cause the primer is more visible through it.

For the labor (Priming, Sanding, Wetsanding, Spraying) he wants 350 dollars. I had the buy the strainers, mixing sticks, paint, activator, sandpaper and food.

If anyone looking to get their car painted near the 805 he will do it for cheap. Hes looking for a guinea pig so he can do a 2 Stage paintjob for the first time. You buy ALL the supplies and he will do the labor.

At the moment im debating whether to buy an LSD rebuild kit and shim the LSD. OR throwing it in as is. I am also looking for RCAs, and a Rear Lateral Bar.

Plans for the weekend: Seafoam! I just barely did an oil change, so im not gonna throw it in the crank case, but I will throw it in the gas tank, and the Booster Vacuum line to see if it helps at all. I MIGHT have a video when its done, but for sure pictures. :D

Seafoam!

Dump it in 1/3rd increments

1/3 inthe Gas Tank

1/3 in the Intake

And I didnt Dump any into my crankcase because i had just done an oil change with expensive oil. So im saving that 1/3 for when the next change comes in.

Here's a video...

I finally felt my TVIS kick in for the first time. I also got some better throttle response most likely due to build up in the TB. I think I invested a good 10 dollars with this seafoam stuff.

I got my LSD installed today. And i found out I have 1 kouki axle on the driver, and 1 zenki axle on the passenger. They still used them, and the shop said that they fit inside the LSD without any excessive force. How is that possible, i thought everyone said that it wasnt possible. The splines look like they match up (i took the cut off pieces home) But one axle has finer pitch than the other.

Im thinking its due to the fact that when they trimmed my axles all the tapered pieces were cut off. And since the splines are about the same, they have no problem locking right on the diff

Its been a while since ive updated this thread because I do things slowly and I wanted to do one BIG update.. well here it finally is

5/1/10
Went to a meet called FOURBANGERS that a friend helped put together.

Mostly just STi's and EVOs. A couple s2k's, another corolla, some hondas, and an eclipse showed up. It was over 70 cars. Heres the pics of the less cool people...

http://www.socalevo.net/index.php?optio ... ic=96814.0

5/17/10
Installed a TRD Replica wing..

5/20/10
Whiteline Rear Adjustable Panhard Bar

I also received my new front tires. They're Federal 595 size 195/50/R15

Maintenance wise:
I ordered a Fuel Filter from work, and it should get here 5/24. And I replaced my Brake Master Cylinder. It was my first time doing it, and it really wasnt too hard to do. Took about an hour + 30 to bleed.

5/24/10
Installed some D*GARAGE 50mm RCAs and lowered the front. And I just ordered some Stainless Steel braided Brake Lines, because my stock brake lines are about to burst, some of em are down to the threads. No insulation

5/26/10
Replaced Fuel Filter
Tranny Flush, Diff Flush, Oil Change
Install SS Brake lines
Mounted the Federals and now I rock 4 Meshies

This was all in preparation for this track event.

Here are the pics from that event Me and all my buddies (over 370 pics)
http://smg.photobucket.com/alb.../WSIR/

6/25/10
So at the track event I realized my steering wheel was WAY too big, so I got an eBay one. Its a pretty nice one My seats not doing so well, getting so abused.. I might have to reupholster it. And i still cant get rid of those diamond plate floor mats lol

6/29/10
Since I had a nice fat deposit down for a spare engine. The guy agreed to let me pick at it for a couple parts. So I nabbed the headers and the new cat off of him. Cause my cat was rattling, and I just wanted headers. car sounds raspy like a honda at idle -3.5k. Then once I hit 4, and once TViS opens up it sounds nice. Not throaty, but not raspy. Just kinda a lil louder than stock. The exhaust leaks I caused arent helping me though, I need an Exhaust Manifold Gasket, and the 2 gaskets that go on the cat. And to make it bad, i striped one of the bolts on the head haha. **** it, this motors gonna go to a junkyard, or probly sell for peanuts.

7/21/10

4A-GE
16 Valve
1.6 Liter
Inline 4
265,000 mi.

Adjustable Cam Gears
TRD Plugs and Wires
HKS Intake
Illegal Garage Clutch
TRD Headers
(free T50 Tranny w/ Copper Cusco Shifter Bushing)

Has a blown headgasket.

Im gonna clean it up and organize all the AC pipes, and Oil Cooler Lines. Dump the Oil, and Coolant in the block And degrease the **** out of the outside. Once I get it cleaned up, ill start tearing it up just so I get less dirty while doing so. I already put the Headers on my current motor, I still needa put the Intake and Wireset on my current motor and rock em till I get my motor built. When I took off the clutch I found out it was pretty much toast. Ill have to get a new one.

8/6/10
Eight Six Day! Today seemed like a good day to open up the engine after I got everything organized..

Need to buy Rod Bearings, Main Bearings, Piston Rings, Seal Kit, Water Pump, Oil Pump, Timing Belt, and a Thinner Headgasket. Whos got 953 bucks i can borrow?

8/7/10
LOL!

8/18/10
Installed HIDs for a night event im going to this weekend.

8/21/10
Slid at this event today
Toasted my clutch on the last run of the day for the **** of it hehe

9/4/10
So I took the engine to the machine shop last tuesday. I got word from them a few days later that my #4 cylinder was out of round and had to be bored to be evened out. This was caused by the Blown Headgasket. So I said **** it LETS DOETT!

I am getting the following done:
Hot Tanking the: Head, Block, Crank, Pistons, Connecting Rods, Intake Manifold, Oil Pan, Tranny Mounts, Motor Mounts, Alternator Bracket, and my Valve Covers
Getting all the clearances checked on the Valvetrain and Block.
A 3 Angle Valve Job
Head will be Shaven
Block will be Decked
Cylinders will be Honed
They will also be bored out .020" over
Brand new Oversized Pistons and Rings will be Pressed In

All for a slam bangin' hoot and hollerin' $475

9/23/10
SEAL THAT **** UP BETCH

10/25/10
Brembo Drilled and Slotted rotors, i found em on craigslist for $30 bucks!

Version Select rear bumper. at $80 it was a steal.

Also pulled my buddies Turbo II rotary today... thats me dazed

In other news, my engines done. Total cost out the door with the crank set in with new bearings is gonna be $550.
I have no money so, well see when i retrieve it.

10/26/10
Rattle Can paintjob done in ten mins...And installed

11/20/10
SUCK MY IM A SHARK.

Finally paid off my Engine. Turned out to be 450 even
While I was installing the final piston I bent one of the oil expander rail rings. Will have to get a new set

11/21/10
Day 2 in re assembling this puppy.
Finished up the bottom end compeltely.
Installed Oil Pickup, Baffle Plate, Oil Pan, AC, PS, WP, Alt, Tensioner, Fans, Crank Pulley, Thermostat, and the Water Outlet and Inlet Housings.

Im still waiting on my Head Bolts to put on the head. Hopefully by tuesday!

And what remains... Intake Plastics, Intake Mani, valve Covers, AC and PS lines, and Oil cooler w/ lines.

Well ive come a long way these past 6 months, hopefully it gives you guys something to look at. Im hoping to paint the engine tommorow, align my car, andtorque down the head tuesday. If all goes well im throwing it in this weekend. Stay tuned.. if you care haha

I got a deep ass cut while cutting vacuum lines for the motor.. so i got the closest things to me to stop the bleeding. Toilet paper, Masking Tape, and a ZipTie

Lets drop it in

Final product... look the same huh? lol

Well we got it all assembled and we added all the fluids, but the coolant decided it wanted out. So it leaks from the thermo housing. I think its either bolted on crooked, or we installed the thermostat backwards amongst all the commotion.

Well we decided to atleast try to see if it cranks over, even without coolant. Well we keep trying and trying, and nothing.. then we realized there was fuel squirting at the sky! 2 Injectors were leaking. Turns out the Orings on the injectors got crimped and they ripped in half. We replaced them and gave it another shot. Gave it some gas and turned the dizzy and BAM it started with the dizzy to full left. It wouldnt hold an idle, so the timing of the distributor is a bit off. Tommorow ill reinstall the distributor the right way and hopefully i can finally take my puppy home after 5 days. Im super stoked!
