the car ran it's first event tonight. it was a little drift event that gets held once a month here in phoenix.
the event goes from 5 to midnight and i drove from 6 to 11:30 pretty much non stop, if i wasn't on track, i was in line. car running the whole time.

i am terrible at drifting (this was my first event) but i gotta say, the car took all the abuse i put it through and the temps stayed perfect the whole time.

this thing is great. couldn't be happier with the build.

can't wait to get it on a road course where i am more in my element (grip)

so... i was starting to get sick of explaining to people that the stick figure hood was just a temporary, and yes i do know that a proper v-mount setup needs a vent in the hood to work properly.
the dmaxx hood i ordered never came in, so i tried to order a dmaxx copy from vis, none in stock. so i started to think about making my own hood vent using a spare hood i had picked up in the junkyard. i wasn't really a fan of this idea but my friend brought up a good point that if i made a hood vent, it would fit the hand built feel of the car better than buying one. i was just nervous that i was gonna ruin a good stock hood and it would look dumb. but i really liked the idea of keeping it diy-ish.

first things first, cut a hole, this involved alot of measuring using something called a tape measure and a brain.

aaron and i came up with the basic shape for the vent. then he cut it all out and fit it together using his savant like welding skills.

after about 30 test fits where i had to sand the vent to keep it from touching the intercooler (yet still be VERY close to it)
i figured out the mount brackets (seen mocked up in the previous pics) which involved alot of drilling and alot of...

pop rivets, i like pop rivets.

so here it is. the entire hood and vent is going to get sprayed black in a week or whenever my painter has the time. so for a little while longer i am stuck with an odd colour hood.
all in all, i am happy with it.

well... my beautiful machine cut faceplate for my dash project fell through, so as always i just decided to make it myself. it sucked because i used a die grinder, a drill and a hand file to do everything.
mind you, this is only half done. i still need to fit the oil temp gauge, turn signal l.e.d.'s, check engine l.e.d. and brake l.e.d. as well as sanding and painting the face plate... or maybe i'll powder coat it.

so far i like how it looks a lot.

cage is painted, interior is back in, i am very happy with the results. i went with satin black for the cage to make it "disappear" in the car.

fun parts wanting to be installed, unfortunately, only the bushings will be making it in by the next track event

bushings were the easiest i have ever done

funny story:
this car already had the supra axle in it and i could see that the 4 links had been cut and re-welded to fit the axle. so i assumed that the person who had done the swap used half ae86 and half supra links... i was wrong, the whole set up is all ae86 so i ordered the 79 supra link kit for no reason. derp.
the welds on the 4 links look super haggard (mig) but they have help up in the face of some pretty brutal abuse from both me and the previous owner. thus i am going to leave them be.

the new design of the energy suspension bushings is pretty cool. instead of the normal 2 piece flanged bushing with a steel tube, it is now a 3 piece bushing with a steel tube.
2 flanged caps and a egg shaped inner.

same awful goo

oh yeah, the gauge cluster idea is over. i found out that my ems 4 does not have the drivers to run the tunerview (i was originally led to believe the tunerview would work with it), so now i am just gonna save up and get a racepak iq3

aloha. not much been going on in the last couple of months other than driving the lil coupe as much as possible.

i did not take these crappy pics

until a couple days ago when i was driving the car over to my new house. as i was driving down the expressway the drive shaft decided to eat itself leaving me unhappy and stranded.

no big deal, right? i can get a new one made for free under warranty.

well... when the drive shaft was flopping about underneath my car, it decided to destroy the rear case of the transmission.

so that's nice. it also wrecked my rear brakeline and fuel feed and returnline. bonus.

on the bright side i did get a new driveshaft for free

here is a lil video i took on xmas day at 7 in the morning.
sorry about the shoddy angle, i propped the camera up with a rock.

small update on a minor revamp
here are the wheels... need some tires.

c7 fiberglass sideskirts fitment is super rad

and now on to some ***** ****,

first off, i have been very unimpressed with all the s13 rearend swaps that i have seen, even if the fab was good, the execution or design has sucked (thanks for showing me that crap dubsky... you almost tainted my brain)
well,i took the car to john, because he's done a few swaps like this, and he understands the geometry of the suspension.
that beings said, the subframe needs to be up higher than the body of the car will allow. soooooooooooo
he cut some holes in the heap. these are just for clearance at this time, the finished holes will be wider for better bolt access and they will be boxed in as well.

and now the fun pics...

well... this is what 30mm extra track per side looks like.

and now with my overfenders.. these will be attached using threaded nutserts on the body and titanium 4mmx.7 taper allen heads that i will burn myself...

i am pleased. with a little camber ill have room for 205's. i know it's retarded that i am gloating about 205s, but i've been rolling on 195s for ever and been fine, so 205s will be cool.

fuggggg i can't wait to drive it again.

some progress.

strut tower carnage

can't find pics of the newer, stronger strut towers, but they are nice.. i assure you.

new alloy drive shaft

best name ever

got a nice kaaz 2 way and an extended diff cover

originally i ordered a set of stance coilovers for the project, but the people who work there are some of the most incompetent people i have ever dealt with.
on the other hand the people at BC and ace up motorsports were very helpful in setting me with the ae86 front/s13 rear combo that i needed with swift springs. they even re-valved the shocks and upgraded the oil at no extra charge after hearing about my 6 month ordeal with stance.

as of right now i have SPL ruca's and stance toe arms on the car with solid subframe bushings. i am being lazy about ordering traction arms

got to take it for a drive around the block. none of the bodywork is done and the front is rubbing all over the place so i can't drive it normally yet.

click to watch video
it's open downpipe at the moment

as soon as the holiday mess is over i will be ordering full rear overs because the run-free flares aren't gonna cut it. then the jdm front will be put up for sale so i can make my car look like a sentra

fully
