 Oil Sump Gasket Reply  Edit

Quick Question,

Putting back together engine block and we dont have a gasket for the oil sump, can we just use motoseal? if so what type? can we just use a cut paper gasket? I'm assuming neither can be used cause of the high temperatures, let me know.

Stock pan & windage tray uses sealant only. Toyota FIPG or Honda bond are the 'best', but blue/clear blue permatex rtv is ok too.

+1 If the dealer stuff isn't within your price range, the permatex works just as good for what you need it to do. And it's off the shelf at the parts store.

We don't have the OEM gasket and the only way to get one is to buy a $250 gasket set.

can you use an RTV sealant?

When I had to replace my front main seal, the kit came with the oil pump gasket, oil pickup gasket and the front main seal. I purchased the whole kit for $6. you may want to try that avenue and see. I picked mine up at a local auto parts store.

If you were closer, I'd give you mine because I only used the front main seal.

Never use sealant on the oil pick up tube. The excess sealant get squeezed inside the hole blocking the passage way. Better buy and use gasket material and make a pattern of the flange. On the oil pan gasket issue, use sealant never gaskets like the ones made even by Felpro, they will leak. Trust me on this one!
