as I alluded too in another post... the car I'm building the n/a 2RZ for will be using a Supra box, but the final drive they chose was a Dana 30 from an old Volvo. Dana 30 is "STRONG AS OX", has many different ratios available and usually are less costly. They will be adding all the mounts to fit it under the AE86.
Information is POWER... learn the facts!! http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/ USE it! I've been wrong before... and at somepoint in time, I'll be wrong again

sounds good, i also have the supra box with the trucks bellhousing to bolt right in, i think im going with a ford 8.8 from a mustang and not have to worry about it at any hp levelsthe transmission though, its a w58 which i think i will replace with a r154 once the hp/tq numbers start to go in the upper 300

Any issue with the sump or steering rack? Could you put up some closer pics of the engine mounts?

well actually the original engines mounts wont work, i have to make some custom ones, and the engine sits a bit high for my taste, but im planing on cutting either the oil pan or the crossmember just a bit to sit the engine lower, as for the steering rack i dont see any clearance issues with it, the main thing is that the motor mounting point lined right up, and i just learned that their is different w58 with different shifter positions, if i had the celica supra w58 the shifter would be in the original location, i will post pictures when i start working on it this weekend,

Wow that is surprisingly very close! That can be done with some machined spacers (possibly even just washers) and hockey puck mounts! I have been thinking about feasible future swaps and this seems to be the winner. I want something readily available in America, that us already RWD and manual trans. Toyota of course, and relatively young. Let's face it, my blue top head is 26 years old and my 7A bottom is old enough to drive.

yea if you search paradice racing, they used to have a built drag ae86 with this engine at around 761hp and were doing 8.?? seconds, and this engine has plently of torque so i know it will be good for drifting, when turbocharged it can handle 350hp on stock internals i test fitted this without the oilpan, it is my only issue, just like the rest of the engine swaps on a ae86 this engine is tall so i have to either modify the oil pan or the lower brace, i will post picture when i get to this part, im having trouble working on this with school keeping me buisy

You mentioned above about modifying either the pan or subframe for clearance. Would nothing the subframe not reduce its strength? I would be apprehensive about that, given the new motor's torque and heft. Lowering the subframe seems a viable option, with simple spacer blocks and an extended steering shaft. On the engine management side, are you using Megasquirt because you're going turbo? Or would the stock ecu be ok for a straight swap? I think the 165ish HP 3rz would be just fine as a stock reliable motor for a weekend fun car.

the clearance it needs is very little, what i would cut on the subframe wont hurt its strenght, as for the reason i went ms, when i bought the engine it didnt come with an ecu, and i do plan on going turbo, so it just seemed logical to get ms im not sure but i think that the 3rz is "taller", and cant rev as good as the 2rz can, with some upgraded valve springs the 2rz should be revving to 7500k turbo'd- that and price is why i chose the 2rz over the 3rz, and the 2rz already makes tons of torque over the 4ag

All that makes perfect sense. What specific bellhousing and transmission did you use? Tacoma box and Supra bellhousing?

i used the bellhousing from the tacoma manual transmission (w59 i think) and bolted right up to a w58 from a supra with no issues or modifications

if only you lived closer we could get this done in a day or two, if you know how to use a grinder and cutting wheel, cutting the brakets is very easy, the jig is a little more complicated than that
