ok, ive been thinking of doing a super low budget/boot leg front suspension setup just to see how they hold up and how long they last. so, i purchased a generic ebay coilover kit for the ae86, and some generic pillow ball camber plates.


the only other issue i might have is the shock themselves. they might blow eventually, so ill have to look into some short stroke fronts. ill post pictures of everything installed later.

total cost was about $170 or so.

well i appreciate all the concerne, but ive used this type of setup on a civic that i daily drove for a few years. didnt have any issues with the suspension. this is all going on a daily as well and i dont plan on driving it too hard. so here are the pictures. i added a solid top hat that is not included with the kit as an added measure.

you know, honestly ive had this type of cheep stuff on a civic in the past; the good stuff like cusco, tein, and bilstein suspension on my s13 and their is no comparison. but when you are on a very low budget like myself and want some adjustability to your ride at the cost of a set of springs, this might be an alternative. my car has been down for well over a year now and all my money has been going to my engine build. so, as most of you know, there isnt much money to spare. i just got my motor back a few days ago, so ill be installing it this weekend. as soon as i get back on the road ill post updates.

do you need the adjustability? if not, why not try eibach springs with tokico blues?

Eibachs are actually what I had. They just weren't low enough for me. I can't remember how much of a drop they are maybe 1 1/2 inch. There was a clearance of 2 inches from the top of the tire to the fender well. So ill he selling the front eibachs real soon.

how much were those camber plates? and they bolted right up??
i have mashed on my car and it has the same front setup and its been fine to me.

I haven't really tested them out. My car is slowly coming together. I do have some pictures of it all together and rims mounted. Just have to upload and post. Camber plates costed me $100 to my door.

for weeks i always wanted to chime in on this

itll work

1st coilover i bought was from some old 86 racecar from the 90's with homemade camber plates and these sleeves with some generic 6k's

i modded the casing with my welding ..and since then its been holding up on my friends car

trust me i put them to sh-t and crashed so many times

they work ... the diy camber plates were so janky too ..but theyre still going

i always say ..just go to the junk and grab some honda ones that will fit skunk2,gc's etc ... and buy plates and shocks ..or grabs some SS off some cars in the jy also

and DIY ...cheap and easy ..i make shortened casing with a $20 grinder and a welder and some fencing steel off homedepot .. lol

so many things that will work on this car its how you think tho to save money and put it to work ... many people will doubt it like i did in the beggining but after many hard hits still works ..trust me i put it thru alot of sh-t

no, actually it has an inch or two left. since those pictures i have lowered it a lil more cambered the whells in and pulled, flipped, and rolled the lips to the max. the perch is the stock ones just cut to retain the sleeve. now i have to cut the springs in the rear to lower the car an inch more in the rear and get an allignment. anyone know how much to cut off the rear springs to get it an inch lower? ill post updated pictures later.

Im actually going to be installing some kyb agx adjustable shocks real soon, along with some megan rca's, and tcs adjustable tension arms.
