I hope it dosent look like that or else I wont buy one...........to be honest I would really like it to look like the AE86. I know that whole retro design stuff is played out and I dont think a company with progress thinking like Toyota would do that.

they should bring the old school into it a little more just like the 5hitstang and the gaymaro. the bumpers should be a little more square. well the whole things should be more square. they went wrong as soon as they tried to get aerodynamic with the ae92. all downhill from there.

If you know or not, Toyota is making a new AE86!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.caradvice.com.au/43...ae86/ So the question sits; will you buy one?
I personally will. But keeping my "Classic AE86" as the weekend driver. 6(-_-)9 Flexing emoticon. I was so excited when I read about this car that I ripped my pc off my monitor and threw it through my window. Renton

Looks like a scion TC on the front.. and like a Celica on the back..The thing that i dont like is that they made the car.. to high.. it should be like an ae86 is.. really short.. so the gravity center is lower {better handling}. And for a motor.. 2ZZ-GE the celica one should be good. Lower the car center of gravity.. and put a 2ZZ-GE and it will be the S%^T. That way it will compete with the s2000. if yu checked on the other forums.. like the fun talk one.. i think they were talking about it a long time ago. hahahaha. I got exited to.. but looks like they are going to use a drivetrain from subaru or mitsubishi i cant remember.. And if you dont want your monitor.. i will go get it right now. my syster needs one. Anyways is just a concept. not a car yet..i hope they make it.

What do you guys think of the picture? From what I see, it has 17 or 18 inch rims, independent suspension in the front and rear, front engine rear wheel drive, Five lug, probably an LSD. I think it is amazing...what do you have to say?

well.. it wasnt the corolla gt here dumb dumb..but yah, im not quite so sure if it would sell great here, most people that buy corollas now are people with families.. if it was rwd and 4 door. hah, it be selling.. but it would have to be a lexus then.. i find it funny that hondas same market seg car is the civic, and it comes in 4 doors and 2 doors here. the corolla, declined to just 4 doors here.. besides, how many civic si's/ coupes are sold compared to 4 doors? toyota would have to make this corolla 4 door, or put a different name on it..maybe on of the euro names instead..verso? hehhhe
'85 Coupe , blown hg among other things =(

RWD 4 door Corolla sold along side a coupe would also be cool! I think it will sell. A good base for racing is a good base regardless of its part history..........People who are into racing that dont give a rats a55 about the AE86 will still use it IF Toyota produces a good car.

Pop ups are no longer DOT compliant. I thought they just went out of style but aparently there no longer legal (anyone know this as a fact?)

Rumours have been rife in the auto industry about the return of one particular car made legendary by a certain Japanese anime series. We’re talking about the Toyota Corolla AE86. In a scoop by Japanese magazine Best Car, they’ve reported that Toyota is indeed working on a spiritual successor to the AE86 - lightweight, great handling, and most importantly rear wheel drive. Toyota’s NZ engine family was cited as as possible powertrain, however as far as I know it is currently a FF powertrain. The FR 3SZ-FE from the Avanza sounds more probable.Hmmm don't remember hearing that before..... A few days ago newspaper Asahi Shimbun further added fuel to the excitement, stating that Toyota and Subaru will be jointly working on this new project and Toyota could source a rear wheel drive boxer engine from Subaru for the car. A target release date is sometime in 2010. Toyota needs a replacement for the Scion tC and the Celica anyway. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Yeah, these rumors have been flying around for awhile now about a successor to the AE86. You know what catches my eye? Is that there are more articles on different sites about this, and furthermore, more information is being released. My opinion is that its going to happen...because now theres a world market eagerly awaiting this. Toyota can't just pass up something that big. Add the fact that we KNOW Toyota is reviving its sports car image in the near future and these rumors start to take in a little credit.I'm not too fond of hearing this car will be equipped with an "F" head though. Sure, emissions are strict nowadays, but if they really want to revive the 'spirit' of the AE86 they're going to have to put a High-revving G type head on this sucker. The AE86 got its spirit from two things: light-weight RWD and the 4AG. Can't have an AE86 and not have both. The 2ZZ-GE from the Corolla XRS would suit it perfectly. 8500rpm redline and, what, 160hp? If you've driven an XRS then you know what it feels like in that heavy/bulky 4 door of a corolla. Still peppy and revs very nicely...imagine that in a 2000lb RWD platform! 2010 then is it? Well I'll start saving now so I can buy the first one straight up with cash and finance the second one.

ford dodge and chevy are all doing the throw-back thing. toyota should too but with as little redesign a possabile. i want them to come out with the same car they did in 1984. add modern safety who-ha and make the head lights ok for DOT. they could redo the inside but make it interchangeabile with the 80's model. a new 4AG would rock. i say if it is a pipe dream lets make it a good one.
ask me about my 3tc hatch?99% how did that happen?

the last generation celica with a 7AGTE & rwd would've been good to go for me. Hell, if/when this last ae86 rots out, I'll probably do just that - put my floorpan & mechanicals under a 2000 on shell. Its a good lightweight cabin design and would buy me a few more years of fun. Can't ever see me purchasing any new car. Don't care for toyota styling of late either.
