AE86 Interior Colors, Dying/Painting Interior Parts - Help! Reply  Edit

Hit a couple wrecking yards today and found some really nice interior bits for my AE86, but they are black

This wouldn't bother me, but my interior is blue like this:

(Just some pic I found online, BTW; not my AE86)

Anyways, I'd really like to repaint/dye my interior parts like in this thread:

http://www.celicasupra.com/for...-Blue

I'd really like to dye the parts instead of simply paint over them though.

So my questions:

1) How do I find the paint codes/colors of my AE86's interior? I'd really like to find a factory color match.

2) Is it possible to dye a black part blue (I am thinking not)

And finally, if anyone has any advice/tips I'd really appreciate the help too (prep, products, etc.)

Thanks!

EDIT: I kinda figured it out myself, so I'll post my findings here.

Found a thread here on removing the color on AE86 plastic parts:
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com...pping

I've actually found a bit of info on using oven cleaner to remove paint from plastic; kinda interesting (I'd be worried about melting or otherwise ruining the part though)

Also did some research on the SEM paint used in the first link. In the below video, it looks like they used the paint to color plastics/vinyl a lighter color:

I'm thinking some SEM paint on my black parts would work nicely

I also picked up a heat gun at Harbor Freight to repair some of the plastic interior bits on my car:

I'll keep you guys posted here

SEM is the ish! i think it would be fine, and they have so many colors to choose from. ironically though, the easiest thing to do is probably offer to trade people your black bits for their blue ones, since most cant stand the blue interior, and everyone wants the black stuff.

haha cali...i got one of you 86's, and your not getting it back.

Yeah, I actually thought of the trade idea a little while ago

It's only 2 parts so we'll see

Eventually though I'd like to repaint all the interior pieces like in the celicasupra thread I posted a link to earlier. My main hurdle is finding the correct color of paint.

Did you ever try this?

I have the same color interior and did the SEM shadow blue, which matched perfectly... but now i'm trying to find a match for the lighter blue areas... I didn't see a match from SEM.

Hey BeBop86,

Nope, I haven't tried this, although I hope to do so eventually.

Yeah, my hunch was that SEM Shadow Blue was a perfect match for the darker areas after reading this thread:

http://www.celicasupra.com/for...-Blue

The SEM Color Coat chip card kinda helps, but as you can see Shadow Blue looks almost black:

There are more paint products to look at than SEM though, so there must be a match somewhere.

Cutting up an AE86? Please me know! I need body panels!

Not the greatest photo, but you can see the driver side is faded:
